The Invasive Seaweed Rugulopteryx Okamurae

The arrival to the Iberian Peninsula of the Algae Rugulopteryx Okamurae from the Northwest Pacific, is modifying the marine ecosystems of both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, displacing local species and razing the coasts.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Julio Junquera, born in Cádiz, is a camera operator and documentary filmmaker.
He began his career as a camera operator and assistant director on various programs for Canal Sur Televisión and commercials for Impulse Cine y TV and PIA (Producciones Independientes Andaluzas).
Currently, he directs Camarón Films Wildlife & Underwater Cinematography.

In October 2025, he will premiere his mid-length documentary:
“Rugulopteryx Okamurae. The Invasive Alga”.
He also serves as Coordinator and Camera Operator of the Underwater Imaging Department at the NGO Oceanidas, which developed the project “SAVE THE LITTLE BIG SEAHORSE”, published by National Geographic Spain in 2024.
Specialized in underwater cinematography, he has received several national and international awards for his documentaries and short underwater films at prestigious film festivals.
