Shared Planet – WATERS – Raja Ampat segment

WATERS, from the limited series Shared Planet, highlights inspiring stories from Idaho to Indonesia, focusing on hope in the world’s oceans and freshwaters. In this segment from Raja Ampat, dynamite fishing once threatened marine life, but it is now a Marine Protected Area with unmatched biodiversity and more jobs for local people.

Director Biography – Jeffrey Turner

Jeff is one of the preeminent natural history filmmakers in the world today. At the highest levels of production in the industry, he is the complete filmmaker – as comfortable behind the camera shooting or directing as he is behind a desk or in the cutting room producing and writing multi-million-dollar film projects. For the past 35 years he has directed, shot, written and produced more than 40 natural history documentaries for Netflix, BBC, CBC, PBS, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet and Terra Mater Factual Studios in settings throughout the world. His films have been seen around the world in more than 80 countries.

Jeff most recently wrote and produced the series “Island of the Sea Wolves” for Netflix, narrated by Will Arnett. This blockbuster series was nominated for seven 2023 Daytime Emmys and won four, including a win for Jeff for Outstanding Nonfiction Writing.

Jeff produced, wrote and shot the IMAX feature film “The Great Bear Rainforest” narrated by Ryan Reynolds, for which he won Best Cinematography at the Giant Screen Awards.

​Jeff has worked as a producer, director and cinematographer on epic BBC programs such as “Planet Earth”, “Frozen Planet” (Emmy Nomination for Best Cinematography, Royal Television Society Award Win for Best Photography for Documentary) and “Nature’s Great Events”.

Other selected credits include “Grizzly: Face to Face” (British Academy Award Nomination for Best Cinematography), “Wild Canada” (Best Director Win, Canadian Screen Awards), and “The Wild Canadian Year” (Best Science / Nature Documentary Win, Canadian Screen Awards).
